Lie Detector Services was established in 1997 in Durban South Africa as the well-known Polygraph Services run by owner and examiner Buks van den Berg who trained at the Maryland Institute for Criminal Justice in the United States of America. He is a registered member of the American Polygraph Association (APA). He served as the secretary of the Polygraph Association South Africa (PASA). Currently he is also a member of the following associations, the South African Polygraph Federation (SAPFED), The British Polygraph Association (BPA) and the International Association of Polygraph Examiners (ISOPE) During this time he has conducted in excess of 35000 polygraph examinations.
He always uses the most up to date equipment and at present he has the latest Lafayette LX6 instrument which include motion sensors and camera. He also conducts lie detector tests using the latest Eye Detect® and Eye Detect +® equipment. He is fully trained in the use of Eye Detect® equipment having completed all examinations set by Converus. He keeps up to date by attending all the prescribed continual educational hours that the APA require to be a member.
Since 2018 Buks has been conducting polygraph tests throughout the UK mainly for private clients with many and varied issues such as fidelity, theft & trust issues.
Prior to this he carried out tests in the corporate sector including arbitration cases in the civil court and managed several large and complex investigations involving syndicated theft from international diamond mines in South Africa and South-West Africa, pharmaceutical companies, finance companies, The Road Freight Association and Insurance companies. He worked extensively throughout Africa administering polygraph tests for NGO's and private companies.
The Polygraph examination is more commonly referred to in the UK as the Lie Detector. The test is carried out using polygraph equipment known as an Instrument and uses a procedure to measure and record several physiological indicators such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration (breathing) and skin conductivity while a person is asked and answers a series of questions in a scientifically accurate technique.
The Eye Detect® test is a relatively new concept that was developed by Converus and brought to the market in 2014. The results obtained have a comparable accuracy. Individual examinees can be suited to one system rather than the other. Also, the Eye Detect® test is faster to administer and results are almost instant.
All our results are based ONLY on scientific scoreable data of charts conducted in the examination itself. We also do strict quality control of charts. Verification of these scores can involve the opinion of a second examiner if disputed for any reason.
Lie Detector Service works in conjunction with other qualified and registered examiners and collectively our associated team has over 60 years of combined experience. Each examiner not only has his/her polygraph training from an approved school vetted by the APA (American Polygraph Association), but also have University degrees and prior work experience in the field of either Criminology, Security Risk Management, Forensic Investigation, Private investigation and Psychology, Police as well as the Military.
